Many of our beloved Tampa Bay breweries release special beers all year long — from summery beers to dark winter porters ideal for a cold night in. We rounded up a few new beers to bring you our favorite spring and summer beers of the season. Whether you’re hanging by the pool or at a Rays game, these beers are perfect for the warm summer daze.
Cigar City Brewing Company
Hop heads rejoice! The 22oz. bottle of Jolly Ollie IPA is packed with ten different types of hops. That’s the largest number of hop varietals ever used in a single Cigar City beer. This beer clocks in at 7.8%ABV and has 84 IBU’s.
To brew Jolly Ollie IPA, they used a West Coast-style yeast instead of the English-style yeast we use in Jai Alai IPA.
Cigar City Cider and Mead
Cigar City Cider & Mead is brewing up a batch of the Vicente, an orange blossom metheglin mead that’s aged on Madagacascar vanilla beans. This will be released in bottles starting in June. Stay tuned for the release date! They’re also brewing their Hard Cider to be released in cans early June. They’ll also have a new cyser in the works too — but we’ll have to wait to learn more about it!
Coppertail Brewing Company
This brewery stays fresh on trend and always presents an impressive tap list. As of today, they’ve got a Citrus IPA made with oranges and grapefruit on tap coming in at 5.9% alcohol.
If IPAs aren’t your thing, try the Dangerous Frank’s Purple Drank — but it’s not as scary as it sounds! At 3.5% alcohol, this boysenberry Floridaweisse is perfect for spring day drinking with visiting inlaws.
Dunedin House of Beer
The Dunedin House of Beer will be doing a release/tap takeover tomorrow, the 25th. They’ll have a minimum of 15 beers on tap and have harvested some wild yeast from some local citrus fruits that they’ll be using that as their house wild yeast.
The Citrofurtune (after Citrofortunella microcarpa, the fruit’s scientific name) is currently on tap now. They’ve also just brewed a Belgian Wit with orange and lemon peel, this is being fermented with this wild yeast. This is a great spring beer and is expected to be ready by May 4th.
Escape Brewing Company
Escape just tapped their third beer in the Grass Roots Series. #3 is a Session IPA clocking in at 4.7% with hints of melon and citrus followed by a smooth bitterness. They’re also brewing their Grass Roots Series #1 Extra Pale Ale next week.
Motorworks Brewing Compnany
The Lavender Ale and Orange Blossom Special are perfect matches for this warm spring weather. On Wednesdays, Motorworks has a hospitatlity special where they give ladies and medical/public safety professionals 50% off select drafts and $1 off wine and cocktails after 5.
Pair O’Dice Brewing
The Lucky Lucy Strawberry Blonde is Pair O’Dice‘s current summer beer and it’s only available through May! Coming in at 4.8% ABV, this blonde ale brewed with over 300 pounds of local, Plant City strawberries. There is a pleasant aroma of strawberries on the nose and a supple flavor of strawberry on the palate while still being light, dry, and refreshing with a slight tartness from the fruit. A beautiful fruit beer to celebrate Florida’s strawberry season that still tastes like a beer.
For the upcoming summer months, they’re also preparing a Cinco de Mayo Spring/Summer Release of their Hop Streak Series that will be available in May or June. It will include the MexiCali Jalapeno Lime Pale Ale, a pale ale brewed with fresh limes and jalapenos. There is a spicy jalapeno note on the nose followed by a refreshing, light bodied pale ale full of citrusy lime and fresh pepper flavors. This is a very sessionable pepper ale that can be enjoyed on even the hottest of Florida days.
Next in their Hop Streak Series is the Summer Session IPA which will be available June or July. Last but not least, their Lowball Session IPA is a light bodied hop bursted session IPA that focuses on showcasing the piney, resiny, and tropical fruit notes of Mosaic hops. It pours a clear golden color with aromas and flavors of passion fruit and pine. The hop bitterness is balanced — making it very easy to drink.
