Happy National IPA Day! If you’re looking for the perfect drink to celebrate the occasion, look no further! The good folks at Coppertail Brewing and Coopers’ Craft have got you–and us–covered with the Rusty Pale.
They were kind enough to send us a little care package so we could test out the recipe and share it with our audience. Cheers, guys!
The Rusty Pale was easy to make, and only required a few extra ingredients beyond the beer and bourbon. Luckily, we already had lemon juice and hot sauce on hand.
Here’s the recipe for you to try:
- 5 parts Coppertail Free Dive
- 2 Parts Coopers’ Craft
- 1/4 part Lemon Juice
- 1/4 oz Demerara Syrup
- A dash of Hell Fire Habanero Shrub, or other vinegar based hot sauce
Combine all ingredients and serve in a pint glass or beer mug.
Garnish with a lemon wedge.
How’s it taste?
Delicious. We used Turbinado syrup, but only because we couldn’t find the Demerara. Don’t skimp on the simple syrup. Its sweetness mediates the spicy hot sauce and hoppy, floral notes of the IPA, resulting in a perfect balance of flavors.
Here’s how one Brewery Bay team member described it:
“The lemon and simple syrup provided a balance, allowing the whiskey’s caramel notes to offset the hoppy character of the IPA. The hot sauce provided a subtle reminder of the whiskey’s peppery backbone. Notes of fig, grapefruit, leather.”
Put that shit on BeerAdvocate.
This easy-drinking cocktail is a fun and refreshing way to celebrate this popular beer style. If you try the recipe, let us know your thoughts! However you celebrate National IPA Day, celebrate responsibly.
