Summer officially started last month. I know, Florida can feel like summer has no beginning and no end, but trust me. There’s a lot to love about summer in the Tampa Bay area: sugar-white sands, gorgeous sunsets, afternoon rain showers, and awesome local beers perfect for the season. Whether you’re a total hop head, stout hound or sour fan, there’s a local brew to match your summertime vibe. Here are 5 of our favorites:
Rapp Brewing Company
This may just be the taste of summer in a glass. Tart, sour, yet totally refreshing, with hints of lemon, salt, and lemongrass—this beer embodies a day at the beach. Try it with a dozen fresh, Gulf Coast oysters on the half-shell. You’re welcome.
Green Bench Brewing Co.
Sunshine City IPA
Green Bench brewers double dry-hop this brew for a taste that is pretty much an explosion of citrus and tropical fruit, with a bite of bitter at the end. We like it paired with spicy dinners under a cabana. Ah, that’s summer.
7venth Sun Brewery
Do You Even Sudachi, Bro?
Berliner is another style that’s just made for summer, and 7venth Sun dials up the summer flavor by adding sudachi, a sour citrus native to Japan. Juicy, citrusy, with just the right amount of sour, salty prickles, this beer is a great reason to spend a summer day in fun and funky Dunedin.
Pair o’ Dice Brewing Company
Tropical fruit available all year is just one of the perks of living in Florida. Breweries that add those fruits to their beers are another. We love the slightly sweet, slightly sour blend of guava and hops in this local IPA. Available in cans, so stock up for a Mo’Guava summer!
Hazelnut Cream & Sugar, Please
What if beer could taste like the best cup of coffee you ever had? It can! This American porter has just right amount chocolate and hazelnut sweetness to balance the earthy, roasty coffee flavor. This is our late-night dessert beer, perfect for sitting outside on Central Ave and people-watching.
Obviously, these are just a few of the amazing local beers you can enjoy this summer. There’s simply too many for us to name them all here! So, let us know YOUR favorites!
